Are you positive you’re negative?

It can be scary to face the possibility that you may have HIV, but the only way to know for sure is to get tested. The sooner you know your status, the sooner you can receive treatment and protect yourself and your partner. Free HIV Testing with Immediate Results

Cobb & Douglas Public Health offers free walk-in, opt-out HIV testing at our Acworth-Kennesaw, Douglasville, Marietta and Smyrna locations. The test is performed via finger prick, so your results are available in as few as 60 seconds. All HIV testing, treatment and results are always confidential.

What is PrEP?

Pre-exposure prophylaxis (or PrEP) is a way to prevent HIV infection by taking a pill every day. It is appropriate for people who are HIV-negative and are at high risk of getting HIV. The pill (brand name Truvada) contains two medicines that are used in combination with other medicines to treat the virus. When someone is exposed to HIV through sex or injection drug use, these medicines can work to keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection.

Studies have shown that PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV from sex by about 99% when taken daily. Among people who inject drugs, PrEP reduces the risk of getting HIV by at least 74% when taken daily. Safer sex practices like condoms are also an important prevention strategy, especially if PrEP is not taken consistently.
